Leicestershire Removals

Who we are

Your Leicestershire move, handled properly.

A county firm covering Leicester, Loughborough, Hinckley, Melton, Market Harborough, Coalville and the villages between — house moves, family moves, student moves, long-distance work out of the East Midlands, and removals into Europe.

Moving here, specifically

Control the move, not the chaos

Four things shape a Leicestershire move more than anything else: the housing stock, the roads, the university calendar and the time of day you start. All four are settled before moving day rather than during it.

Housing

A county of terraces, semis and stone

Leicester is Victorian and Edwardian terrace at scale, with student houses layered over it. Oadby, Wigston and Birstall are interwar and postwar semis, mostly with drives. Out in the Wolds and around Ashby it is stone and older brick, with doorways built for smaller furniture. Each one wants a different amount of dismantling, and the survey is where that gets decided.

Roads

The M1 and M69 make it easy — until they do not

Few counties are better placed for a long run: the M1 north and south, the M69 to Coventry, the A46 across, the A6 through the middle. What the motorway network does not help with is the city centre at eight in the morning, or a Charnwood lane that narrows to a single vehicle between granite walls.

Terms

Two universities set the calendar

Leicester and Loughborough together move a great many households every summer, and the rental market turns over with them. It concentrates demand into a few weeks, which is worth knowing whether you are a student, a landlord or a family who simply wants a van in August.

Timing

When the day should start

City terraces need the parked cars to clear; commuter villages empty themselves by half past eight; market towns have a restricted core and, in Melton and Harborough, a market day that closes streets. We set the start time from your street rather than from a default.

What we do

Six services, and a European arm

Terraces, semis, village houses

House removals

Whole households across the county — Victorian terrace in the city, interwar semi in Wigston or Oadby, a stone house in the Wolds, or a new build outside Hinckley.

Where we work

The county, eight ways

Leicestershire is a city, four or five market towns and a lot of villages, and each part behaves differently on moving day. Here is what we cover and what each part is actually like to work in.

Leicester city

City centre · Clarendon Park · Stoneygate · Highfields · Aylestone

Victorian and Edwardian terrace at scale, plus student houses and city-centre flats. Parking is the whole question, and a permit or a suspended bay is often the answer.

Oadby, Wigston & the south

Oadby · Wigston · Kibworth · Great Glen

Interwar and postwar suburbs with drives, plus village streets towards Market Harborough. Among the easiest access in the county.

Loughborough & the north

Loughborough · Shepshed · Quorn · Barrow upon Soar

University town and the Soar valley villages. Loughborough itself has its own removals firm and we link to them for purely local work.

Hinckley & the west

Hinckley · Earl Shilton · Burbage · Market Bosworth

Market-town centres with narrow cores, newer estates on the edges, and the M69 corridor which makes the west of the county quick to reach.

Melton & the Wolds

Melton Mowbray · Asfordby · Bottesford · the Vale of Belvoir

Stone and brick village houses, farm conversions and lanes that decide the vehicle. Further from the motorway than anywhere else we cover.

Market Harborough & the south-east

Market Harborough · Lutterworth · Broughton Astley

Georgian town centres with restricted loading, and commuter villages along the A6 and M1 where the mornings empty early.

Coalville & the National Forest

Coalville · Ibstock · Ashby-de-la-Zouch · Measham

Former coalfield towns and the newer estates around them, with Ashby the most period-heavy stock in the west of the county.

The Charnwood villages

Rothley · Mountsorrel · Anstey · Woodhouse Eaves

Granite, slopes and narrow lanes on the edge of Charnwood Forest. Beautiful, and slower to work in than the map suggests.

Loughborough has its own firm

removals-loughborough.co.uk works that town every day and knows the student streets, the one-way system and the terraces better than a county outfit can. For a move that starts and finishes in Loughborough, ring them. For a move from Loughborough to anywhere else in the county or beyond, that is ours.

Another Leicestershire firm

leicestershire-removals.uk is a separate company covering the same county in a different style. If that is who you were looking for, that is where they are.

The European arm

Moves that leave the country

From the middle of England the drive to the crossing is a known quantity: the M1 south, round London, and out through Kent. The part that decides the date is the customs file, and it has a much longer lead time than the packing.

Worth knowing

Moving in Leicestershire, asked and answered

The questions that come up on almost every first call, answered without hedging.

Which parts of Leicestershire do you cover?

The county: Leicester city, Oadby and Wigston, Loughborough and the Soar valley, Hinckley and the west, Melton and the Wolds, Market Harborough and the south-east, Coalville and Ashby, and the Charnwood villages. Loughborough has its own town firm and we link to them for purely local work there.

How is a quote worked out?

A survey first — in person, or by video for a smaller property — so somebody has seen the volume, the access and the stairs. Then a written quote setting out what is included and what would change it. Nothing is priced from a room count over the phone.

Do you move students?

Constantly. Two universities in the county and a rental market that turns over every summer mean room moves, house-share moves and storage over the holidays are ordinary work rather than a sideline.

Can you move us out of the county?

Yes, and Leicestershire is one of the easiest places in England to start a long run from — the M1 north and south, the M69 west, the A46 across. One crew loads and unloads, whichever direction you are going.

What if our completion date slips?

Tell us as soon as you know. The load goes into storage, inventoried as it is packed, and comes out when you have keys — so you move once rather than camping in a half-furnished house.

Do you handle village and lane access?

Regularly. The Charnwood lanes and parts of the Wolds will not take a full-size vehicle, and the answer is a smaller body with a shuttle — planned at survey and written on the quote rather than discovered on the morning.

Is there another firm with a similar name?

Yes — leicestershire-removals.uk is a separate company covering the same county in a different style. If that is who you were looking for, the coverage page links them.

Tell us what needs moving and when.

A survey costs nothing and turns an estimate into a written quote. Rooms, access and the dates are enough to start.
